Summer is here and I have few tips for you on how to stay healthy on holiday.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of high-calorie meals and little exercise because “I’m on vacation”.
No one ever wants to return with excess weight—and I am not talking about your suitcase. Is it possible to enjoy a healthy holiday without denying yourself every pleasure? Yes!
1. Keep your breakfasts and lunches healthy.
Structuring your days as making breakfast, packing lunch, and going out for dinner allows you to explore the local food scene while getting some solid nutrition throughout your days away.
If you have the capacity to make some of your meals, you can exert control over your food choices which can help you stay on track while on vacation. Even if you don’t have access to a fridge or a kitchen, you can still find some healthy packaged options that can make meals.
Since exploring a new country means sampling exciting and exotic new foods, don’t completely deprive yourself – check out some new restaurants and be sure to try something new, just don’t eat out breakfast, lunch, and dinner for your entire trip or you might hurt your waistline and your wallet.
2. Indulge but keep the focus on fun, not food.
You don’t have to give everything up on holiday! Once a day, indulge in a treat of your choice. Do you want to enjoy that traditional ice-cream by the beach, or that local delicacy the tour-guide told you about?
Deciding what to indulge in and what to avoid is empowering: you’re no longer simply following an impulse, you are making conscious decisions about what you choose to eat. This strategy is something you can do in everyday living, as well as on holiday.
3. Drink water.
Staying hydrated is key, not only for reducing cravings but also for making sure you can keep up with the holiday rush!
4. Go easy on the alcohol.
After a few drinks, you might find your resolve to stick to your health goals quickly diminishing. If you steer clear of the booze, your head and your body will thank you the next day.
5. Digital Detox.
A quick and easy way to give your mind and soul a little boost is to detox from the digital world. Anyone who has traveled in less developed countries will testify that some of the happiest people in the world are those with a lot fewer possessions than us lucky travelers. Stepping back from the 0’s and 1’s is often key to a mental makeover while traveling.
6. Be workout prepare.
It may seem obvious, but this is rule number one so that you can’t use the fact that you don’t have your trainers as an excuse not to exercise. If suitcase space is an issue, just pack a couple of workout wear options made of lightweight breathable materials that can cope with the heat and can be easily hand washed for re-wear during your trip.
Don't forget I have a special workout program designed for travellers.
ON THE GO with 15-minute workouts with zero equipment.
7. Walk.
Along the same lines, try your best to walk as much as you can. It may sound like a no-brainer but you’d be surprised how easy it is to keep your metabolism moving and your mind in a state of Zen just by walking. City breaks make it pretty easy to get your stroll on, but it’s also definitely doable in more remote locations. Do your research, take your time, and walk.

9. Catch up on sleep.
Constantly trying to shake the feeling of being overtired? Holidays are an important time to catch up on lost sleep and allow our bodies time to recover and recharge.
Keep in mind that in hot conditions, sleep may be disrupted whilst your body adjusts to the new climate, so avoid the temptation to stay up late every night of your holiday.
10. PACE YOURSELF.
Don’t try to see the entire city all in one day. If you plan to do a lot in a big city, consider staying longer to slow down your pace and spread your itinerary. You’ll also get to know the area more instead of just being able to say that you’ve “been there.” Be active and roam the streets, but don’t overdo it. Take plenty of breaks in between.
Health and fitness is a lifestyle and should be a part of your daily practice no matter where you are in the world. Make small daily changes on your holiday, from taking the stairs rather than the elevator to swapping an afternoon at the bar for a game of tennis or golf, and reap the rewards when these changes transition to your daily life back at home.
